| Here is what I would call the
standard standing position. Feet about shoulder width apart,
right arm down against the body, and nose on the charging
handle. The grip of the front hand is personal, but I prefer the
palm forward method. With the lack of recoil on the AR's,
there's really no need to shoulder the rifle as you would an M1 or
M1A. And remember, relax that right arm. Lay it right
against your chest.
One note about standing position. It is all mental! Part of what leads to the proper mental attitude is consistency. Make the same motions every time. Load at the same time. Breath at the same time. It REALLY makes a difference. By doing this you can get in the "zone". That mental state where it's only you, the front sight, and the target. I wish I got there more often! There were some rumors a few years ago, I feel started by the anti .223 crowd, that the position of the buttstock as you see it in this picture, was illegal. Well it's NOT! If you don't believe me, call the NRA competitions division! |
